Nurture Installation of Parish Nurse
Parish Nurse Ministry The Parish Nurse Ministry at St. Mark Lutheran Church was
begun in 2006. Through an agreement with the Deaconess Foundation, St.
Louis, a registered nurse works ten hours per week at St. Mark, providing
services that promote good health in body, mind, and spirit. Those services include promoting wellness by communicating
health concerns and current information in the weekly newsletter and on
the bulletin board. Health screenings, such as monthly blood pressure
readings, are also conducted. The Parish Nurse provides classes and support
groups, assists members in accessing appropriate health resources, and
counsels members with personal health concerns. This activity often results
in making nursing visits to a home, hospital, or extended care facility.
The Parish Nurse Ministry was developed to meet the physical,
emotional, and spiritual needs of a congregation focusing on wellness
promotion, disease prevention, management of illness, and advocacy for
its members. Parish nursing is a specialized area of ministry and a recognized
division of community health nursing. St. Mark's Parish Nurse is Ms. Anna Gabriel. She can be contacted at the church office, 233-7914, or at smlcnurse@sbcglobal.net. St. Mark Prayer Group St. Mark Prayer Group is for those who want to devote time
each day to prayer and meditation as a part of their personal ministry.
A list of prayer suggestions for each day of the week is available each
Sunday morning at church. The list may be used throughout the week. Prayer
requests can be made by anyone and are incorporated into the list as they
are made. This list is intended to be helpful in making personal prayers
and in making intercessions for those who request them. The Prayer Group
is sponsored by the Health Cabinet. For more information, please contact
the church office, 233,7914.
